Technology was an important aspect of 2010 Shanghai World Exposition. Among thousands of new technology implications, environmental friendly technology is the most important one since Shanghai World Expo emphasis protecting the environment during the process of urbanism a lot.

First of all, in terms of planning and construction of the Expo, it highlights greening, eco-friendly energy, harmony and the concept of livable, which altogether formed a modern systerm of suitable construction of Shanghai World Expo. China Pavilion design and construction are integrated with ecological devices, ice storage, water reuse, rainwater recycling, green building materials and other new technologies. The maximum use of natural light and solar power for lighting, achieves China Pavilion’s all electricity self-sufficiency goal.[1] Construction of the Expo Axis combines large-span cable-membrane structure, million LED, river water and geothermal heating pumps, large-scale video curvy displaying screens, underground space technology, disaster prevention, and many other integrated applications. Also, many other countries pavilion used solar panels for electricity generation, and by doing this, it reduces hundreds of tons of carbon dioxide per year.

Another important thing for enviromental technology is the use of renewable energy. Low-carbon Green Expo highlights the concept of focusing on clean energy technology research, and demonstraing the use of technology to meet energy saving requirements. During Shanghai Expo time, the expositioning site together with the surrounding area carried out 200 fossil fuel generating vehicles, 380 electrified vehicles, 500 hybrid vehicles, etc.[2] It was the world's largest new energy vehicles commercial operation model in history. Shanghai Expo’s area of solar power capacity will reach 450MW, to achieve the current domestic and Asia's largest building-integrated photovoltaic power generation systems, which is 7.5 times of that in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.[3] The first 34 3MW wind turbine is China's first national offshore wind power demonstration project.[4]

One more thing I would like to point out is Japan Pavilion. They brought around 34 new kinds of robots to Shanghai World Exposition, which are the most advanced kind of robots in the world in 2010.[5]
